Bristol Siddeley BS 605 retractable rocket boost unit was developed to provide additional thrust during takeoff for Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.Mk.50 strike aircraft, ordered by South African Government; BS 605 system is designed to retract within aircraft profile so that no drag penalty is incurred when rocket boost is not in use; it is twin-barrel unit, each unit producing 4000 lb of thrust; propellants are high test peroxide and kerosene; other features of engine and Bristol Siddeley rocket engine facilities are described.
