Investigation has been made of torques acting, as result of electromagnetic interaction, on spherical conducting earth satellites; analysis has been applied to Echo II (1964 4A), which is in near polar circular orbit; calculations have yielded quantitative values for accelerating and decelerating torques; probable explanation of nearly constant spin rate of Echo II for long period of time is that eddy-current torque and induction torque were in balance; other torques are shown to be negligible.
