Article describes application of programmed remote control to propulsion engines; mention is made of diesel electric plant, and requirements for remote control of slow-running large-size diesel engines are discussed; information is given about technique that employs engine telegraph as impulse transmitter for manual operation of conventional type and simultaneously as reference value transmitter for automatic operation; diagram shows associated operation of remote control, data logging and automatic reaction in Brown Boveri ship automation arrangement.
