Two main lines of developmental work carried out by British Ship Research Assn have been development of ultrasonic technique for measurement of modulus of rigidity of propeller shafting and development of optical method for calibrating AEI electric torsionmeters; principles and practical application are discussed; notes are also included on electrical-resistance strain-gage load-cell thrustmeter, for use in Michell thrust block.
