Problem of simulating aerodynamic effects of blast on hypersonic vehicle is of current interest; flow behind blast wave, propagating in downstream direction in hypersonic tunnel, is investigated; assuming that tunnel area downstream of throat has power law variation with streamwise distance and that shock is strong, self-similar solutions of L.Sedov and of W.D.Hayes and R.F. Probstein, for blast wave propagation in stationary atmosphere with power law density variation, are directly applicable; expressions given define ideal energy required to generate strong blast of specified strength in given hypersonic tunnel.
