Some new methods show promise of leading to speed logs which will be extremely accurate; while these may benefit warship, advantage in ordinary navigation is limited by other unavoidable errors; so far as merchant ships are concerned, future of new logs will depend on cost and ease of maintenance rather than accuracy.
