In system developed by Kalman de Kando, single-phase energy is drawn at industrial frequencies from general network, and supplied to locomotive through overhead contact line; phase converter on locomotive converts single-phase into multi-phase current for supply to motor; it acts as synchronous generator and supplies reactive current to motor; electric equipment of locomotives.
