New White marine engine is being installed in two new steamers of Moor Line; fuel economy of about 30% on ordinary triple-expansion engine practice is anticipated; principal idea is to run triple-expansion reciprocating engine at higher speed than propeller shaft to which it is coupled through reduction gearing; works with steam at 220 pressure superheated by 160 F.
