Principles of design of hump yards with automatic and semi-automatic retarders on British Railways; to provide continuous control of cars throughout run, single stage of clasp-type retarders was provided normally in yards of up to 30 sidings and two stages in larger installations; performance of clasp-type retarders; calculation of car speeds and spacing; tabular method of computing time/distance curves.
