Automatic railroad haulage, even under severe winter conditions, has demonstrated its reliability for mass transport of 55,000 tpd of iron ore over 5 1/2-mi distance at Carol Lake; robot train takes instructions transmitted through rails from wayside equipment; coded commands govern speed, braking and positioning of 4 trains of 15 cars; braking system on cars is electropneumatic and standard automatic.
