Pavement Standard Skid Test Tire, covered by ASTM-E17 specifications, is intended for use in evaluation of tire-pavement friction forces providing dimensions required in determination and correlation of coefficients of friction with skid trailers and stopping distance vehicles on various pavement surfaces; design and compounding features of tire; traction characteristics of tire tread pattern and adhesion-hysteresis concept of mechanism of rubber friction; examination of wet pavement traction test data, covering different tread designs and compounds on various road surfaces, discloses that road surface is more important than any variation in design or compound.
