Development of pavement skid testing equipment and techniques employed in United States; description of skid test trailers in use, such as Tennessee Highway Research Program trailer, trailer, built by University of Galifornia, and General Motors Proving Ground trailer, one-wheel trailer by Pennsylvania State University, and others; results of Tappahannock Skid Test Correlation Study are reviewed to show improved correlation between different trailers achieved in past few years; work of ASTM Committee E-17 on skid resistance is summarized, including development of standard tire for use in making skid tests.
