Purpose of paper is to obtain expression for energy loss that occurs when gas distribution ahead of current sheet is arbitrary and to consider implications of expression for coaxial guns used to investigate problems of pulsed plasma propulsion; conservation laws are used to derive expression for amount of input power that goes into all forms of internal energy; it is shown that power depends mainly on rate at which current sheet sweeps up neutral gas.
