Problem of finding thrust program, or control, is considered as piecewise continuous function of time, so that, with fixed fuel supply, summit altitude of rocket in vertical flight is maximized; under assumptions that optimal control exists and that upper bound of thrust is at sufficiently high magnitude, it is proved that optimal control contains at most three subarcs; analysis extends previous results of A.Miele, G.Leitmann, and others to larger class of drag functions.
