Entry corridor, for vehicles with and without lift, is bounded by flight regimes of excessive deceleration and insufficient aerodynamic drag; thermochemical and rarefaction effects of flow field in vehicle's vicinity are discussed; calculation methods for pressure distribution; review of aerodynamic heating, and estimates of its order of magnitude; transfer of heat by convection and by radiation are treated and data on corresponding heat fluxes are given; transpiration cooling and ablation-type heat protection.
