Principal methods used in construction of radial ply, rigid breaker tires are divided into steel and textile cord reinforcements in "girder belt"; characteristics of radial ply tires are compared with conventional tires with respect to tread wear resistance, road holding, wander, spring rate and damping, noise generation and transmission, harshness, roughness, or shake, rolling resistance and fuel consumption, effective rolling radius, and high-speed performance; advantages are enumerated.
