Results of 30 tests performed in single-wheel test facilities with pneumatic tires at various loads and inflation pressures in air-dry sands of various strengths are presented; study was made to determine shape of tire and pedopneumoid (path of point on tire relative to fixed frame of reference) as revealed by measurement of center-line deflection of tires moving on yielding surfaces under various test conditions; two types of gages were used to measure tire deflection; linear gage measured only radial movement of points on inner surface of tire; other measured linear deflection and angular rotation of point on tire about pivot point of gage.
