Four ways in which rail in track loses weight; illustrated description of Railimeter used by LMSR, which measures rail in two directions simultaneously, and indicates weight of section in lb per yd by pointer on scale; instrument compensates reading for losses, but with side worn rails it is necessary to deduct amount of side cut, as obtained by special side cut gage, from reading of Railimeter.
