In order to avoid use of separate ship-locks on irrigation canals having automatic downstream or upstream control, application of wing-gates is suggested; each set of wing-gates becomes automatic regulator for upstream or downstream control by means of small constant level (radial) gates in culverts of lock-head; two methods for locking of vessels are indicated.
