New, high-efficiency laser pumping system is described which consists of axicon at each end of cylinder with both laser and flash lamp centered axially; system's efficiency is first estimated using geometrical optics and it seems to compare favorably with well-known elliptical pump; experimental data are then given which give qualitative agreement with prediction; system has circular symmetry and is easy to fabricate; alignment and operation of system are comparatively simple.
