British Railways will begin trials with new "Driver's Safety Device" (DSD) fitted to three diesel electric locomotives and one a-c electric locomotive; device is of foot pedal type and designed for operation by either foot; it will stop locomotive should driver collapse at controls or fail to respond to audible warning from device, and will also cut off power from traction motors whenever train pipe vacuum or air brake pressure fall below preset minimum; circuit diagram is shown.
