Design of 2500-hp diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors developing tractive effort of 77,000 lb at 9 mph; SD-35 is powered by GM 16-cyl 567-D3A turbocharged engine driving six D67 traction motors through D32 main generator; units have 62:15 gear ratio which permits maximum speed of 71 mph; gear ratios of 61:16 and 60:17, also available, permit top speeds of 77 mph and 83 mph, respectively; 6-wheel Flexi-coil trucks have controlled floating action; center-bearing load is distributed by cast-steel H-shaped bolster to four points in truck frame through double-coil, vertical spring packs.
