Diesel-powered units have Alco 251 engines delivering 4300 gross hp to 6-axle trucks through Voith hydraulic transmissions; each transmission with three hydraulic torque converters is direct-connected to its engine through flexible coupling; hydraulic circuit is automatically energized providing optimum efficiency for prevailing track speed and engine output conditions.
