Most significant milestones in motor-oil technology have been development of detergent-inhibitor additives, antiwear additives, Viscosity-Index improvers, and Carmakers' MS Sequence Tests; recent development and evaluation of new long-life oils to provide satisfactory performance for 6000-mi drain recommendations; field tests carried out included stop-and-go test in taxicabs, General Motors wintertime short-trip or "Aunt Minnie" test, and summertime high-speed test; all three tests provide opportunity to evaluate antiwear properties; results of auxiliary tests and bench tests; procedure for determining oil's tolerance to glycol.
