Bottom mounted acoustic transponder was developed to provide earth-referenced navigation data for ARIS tracking ships; sonar parameters governing design of beacon system and navigation accuracy of one-, two-, and three-beacon complex are described; these techniques include initial survey to establish absolute position of complex as well as relative position of each beacon within complex and subsequent determination of ship's position from beacon returns.
