Attempt at cost reduction through rationalization in design of military vehicles consists of series of light tracked vehicles developed by Ordnance Div of F.M.C. Corp, of San Jose, Calif, on basis of standardized set of mechanical components; this has led to range of models with common engines, transmissions and suspensions; series stems largely from M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier; Chrysler V-8 water-cooled spark-ignition engine and, more recently, General Motors 6V53 diesel engine have been used; amphibious command and reconnaissance vehicle, carrier for "Pershing" tactical missile system, cargo transporter, etc, are discussed.
