Alvis amphibious high mobility 5 ton load carrier is latest development of range of 6×6 fighting vehicles made by Alvis Ltd, Coventry, England; vehicle shares with its predecessors Saladin armored car, Saracen armored personnel carrier and Salamander airfield fire crash tender, same general engine and transmission layout; Rolls-Royce B.81 8-cyl in-line gasoline engine produces 189 hp; suspension system provides cross-country performance similar to modern tracked fighting vehicles; vehicle is equipped with two Dowty 12-in. diam, marine jet propulsion units which provide independent propulsion and steering in water; performance of vehicle is discussed.
