Results of tests, carried out on 1/8 scale model of XM-453, 8× 8, 5-ton Cargo truck, to investigate effect of wheel shrouding on its swimming ability, are discussed; model tests, carried out in River Simulator of Land Locomotion Laboratory indicated that wheel shroud design could radically improve water performance up to maximum of 70% above best unshrouded condition, and that improper wheel shrouding and/or worn tire treads decreases propelling forces of submerged wheels.
