Summary of various programs under study at U S Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES), Vicksburg, Miss, relating to trafficability and mobility studies; current mobility research comprises performance of soils under tire loads, stress distribution under wheels and tracks, deformation of moving tires, and soil strength studies; description of test facility and instrumented test carriages; soils selected for tests include two clean sands, heavy clay, and clayey silt; most recent project, Mobility-Environmental Research Studies (MERS), Southeast Asia, is described.
