Study of internal stresses and resistance to wear of rails; advantages of author's method of measuring joint fatigue and wear test; as result of this more rigid test, semi-hard steel rails, head of which has undergone hardening treatment, appear to mark notable advance from standpoints of safety against fracture and resistance to wear.
