Author endeavors to answer following questions: If United States produces world's best airplanes, and leads world in mass production, how can it be said that she is so far behind Germany in air strength; and since American airplane engines are more widely used throughout world than those of any other nation, how is it that engine production may be bottleneck of Defense Program; problem is to mold mass production principles to suit new technique.
