Installed in P-39 Bell Airacobra, Allison V-1710-E4 engine is first in United States to be placed behind pilot, permitting number of design innovations in construction and armament installation; each of two 6-cyl blocks is complete unit; max normal rating is 880 hp at 2600 rpm at sea level and 1150 hp at 3000 rpm at 12,000 ft.
