In order to reduce first cost and maintenance of small airplane, there is need for simple, reliable, low cost engine with performance equal to present small 4-stroke unsupercharged power plant; piston ported loop scavenged 2-stroke engine considered for this purpose, using as basis results of tests on experimental cylinder of this type.
