Brief illustrated description of two 10,000-kw mobile steam electric power plants mounted on special railway cars, ordered by Bureau of Yards and Docks, Navy Dept, from General Electric Co, to supply emergency power wherever its projects may require; total weight (about 200 tons) of each car carried on 8 axles; natural circulation type boilers furnish 140,000 lb steam per hr; generators operating at 3600 rpm produce 60-cycle, 3-phase power at 13,800 v.
