Work undertaken at Langley Laboratory to determine suitable method for measuring maximum pressures occurring in aircraft-engine cylinders; study conducted in connection with carburetor and oil-engine investigations on single-cylinder aircraft type engine; five devices designed, constructed and tested and three commercial indicators tested; greatest accuracy obtained with electric, balanced-pressure, diaphragm or disk-type indicator with diaphragm of relatively large area and minimum seat width and mass.
