Results of study made show that tethered helicopter embodies some striking stability and control differences relative to free-flying helicopter, i.e., presence of substantial static attitude stability and horizontal position instability; sources of differences are traced and described physically; mathematical model is developed for tethered helicopter and used in analysis of fundamental automatic flight control system requirements to permit unmanned flight.
