Vessel specially designed for dual roles of exhibition ship and cargo-passenger service, was built by Mitsubishi Heavy-Industries Reorganised Ltd; length oa 515 ft 1 in., breadth molded 68 ft 11 in., draft 21 ft 7 in., dw 4800 tons, service speed 17.6 knots, passengers 152; major change when ship is used in normal service occurs in deadweight and draft which become 9600 tons and 28 ft 2 in. respectively, and passenger complement increases to 952; 7-cyl Mitsubishi (Nagasaki) UEC engine develops 9800 bhp.
