Volta Redonda, first ship to be built by Ishikawajima do Brasil-Estaleiros S.A. is forerunner of 5 similar ships ordered by Brazilian Merchant Marine Commission for coastal service; length oa 115.3 m, breadth molded 16.9 m, depth molded 9.2 m, draft molded 6.3 m gross 5430 tons; cruising range is 6000 sea mi; Ishikawajima-Harima-Sulzer engine, rated at 2500 bhp at 150 rpm, is fitted.
