For purposes of this paper Port Launceston is generally considered to constitute whole of 40 mi length of River Tamar; port currently handles about million gross tons of shipping per annum and 550,000 tons of cargo; planned development pertains to city berths, dredging, reclamation and river control, drydocking facilities, deep water port and channel improvements; graving dock has been completed and is described.
