Use of compact self-contained unit, key of which is Burro Model 40 crane-ditcher; crane digs and loads material into air-dump cars and also serves as propelling unit for outfit; 24-ft boom and 17 ft 6 in. dipperstick of Model 40 has with its 3/4-yd bucket, digging radius of 36 ft from center of track, capable of digging to depth of 4 ft 8 in. below top of rail; it is powered by 4-cyl General Motors diesel engine rated at 106 hp at 1400 rpm and 143 hp at 2000 rpm.
