Difficulty of choice between 4- and 5-bladed propeller led to new design attempt which represents compromise; propeller would have dynamic properties between those of even-and odd-bladed propeller, i. e., moderate thrust and torque variations as well as moderate bending moment variations; design was made of 5-bladed " irregular" propeller with nonequal blades and blade spacings; comparisons with regular propellers, behind tanker model, indicate that merits of irregular propeller are open to doubt owing to majority of excited harmonic components.
