Having been universally accepted for so many years that wake effect must be considered when designing marine propellers, it may seem presumptive to allege that it should not; however, new method suggested forecasts with greater accuracy revolutions at which propeller will run when supplied with power; comparison is made between orthodox method, where Va is speed of advance that is used, and new method which uses Vc, speed of propeller discharge. From paper before Inst Mar Engrs, Feb 7 1962.
