Structure considered, which occurs in decks (landing area of aircraft carriers) of ships and bridges, consists of plating stiffened by equal, parallel and evenly spaced beams in transverse direction, with simply supported edges, under concentrated load normal to surface, at mid-span of beam; results for tests on 8 full scale structures in welded steel construction are compared with analyses by Cox and by Clarkson.
