Modus operandi of propeller behind ship; variations in thrust and torque are defined as source of periodic disturbances which are manifest on hull and on propeller as various types of vibrations; factors inducing vibration are examined in relation to propeller design; while optimum efficiencies for 5-bladers are slightly lower, they may be favored for bulk carriers, super-tankers, etc, where draft usually restricts propeller diameter below that giving optimum efficiency.
