Systems are divided into these which do or do not feed back portion of useful energy generated in form of recoverable heat; approach used by Vickers Inc in developing short duration expansion engines for use with solid or liquid propellants in missiles; longer duration expansion engines for external combustion regenerative power system and internal combustion engines using properties of cryogenical stored propellants; merit of latter system.
