Tests carried out with British Railways Type 2 Class "D5000" diesel electric Bo-Bo type locomotive; determination of stresses and spring rates of helical bolster springs; leading dimensions and calculated helical bolster springs; leading dimensions and calculated lateral stiffness of springs; riding properties were ascertained with aid of Askania Universal Vibrographs in driver's compartments; maximum value for lateral oscillations across bolster springs did not exceed about 0.4 in. at 55 mph.
