Farm implement sizes are increasing rapidly; increases in rotating mass, uneven load cycles, and high probability of impact loads inherent in farm applications result in peak drive train torque loads which are very high compared to average torque required; conditions under which these peak torques arise, and effects of torsional elasticity in reducing these peak torques are considered; rubber element drive shaft is described torsional flexibility of which will not replace other forms of torsional overload protection, such as shear pins and slip clutches in agricultural applications; they will, however, by reducing torque peaks, extend life of these devices and other components in drive trains.
