Analytical method for determination of air distance of jet-propelled conventional (CTOL) and vectored-thrust STOL aircraft has been developed; it is indicated that some "classical" or specification methods for computing CTOL air distances are not generally applicable; design charts are developed for determining ground, air, and total takeoff distance in terms of STOL thrust-to-weight ratio, effective wing loading and lift/drag ratio; parametric study of approximately 100 hypothetical CTOL and STOL aircraft was made, and graphs of takeoff performance presented.
