Flow past sphere fixed in uniform stream is calculated to third order of approximation by means of Janzen-Rayleigh method; velocity and pressure distributions over surface of sphere are computed and terms involving fourth power of Mach number, neglected in Rayleigh's calculation, are shown to be of considerable importance as local velocity of sound is approached on sphere.
