Both main and auxiliary power converted from coal fired steam to Diesel, doubling previous cruising range, reducing fuel tonnage by 50% and permitting loading of 200 tons of additional supplies; installation is slow speed, heavy duty, 6-cyl Atlas Imperial Diesel engine rated at 600 hp at 300 rpm.
